In observance of Memorial Day, New York State Assembly Member and DNC Vice Chair Michael Blake released the following statement:
“This Memorial Day, we take time to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the name of service to their country. Our service members swear an oath to protect and defend our constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. Their service is a testament to our highest ideals as a nation; their sacrifice a reminder that we owe our freedom and security to those brave few willing to risk their lives for our defense.
As we gather with friends and family, appreciating all that we have been blessed with, we salute the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who have lost their lives in service of their country.
President John F. Kennedy reminds us that ‘The highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.’ It is our duty to protect and care for our veterans and the families of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
I wish all a happy and blessed Memorial Day.”
