Today, the Michael Blake for DNC Vice Chair Campaign announced that the Honorable Karl Racine, Attorney General of the District Columbia and a DNC Member, has endorsed Michael Blake for DNC Vice Chair. This critical endorsement continues the support of national and state leadership including Vice Chair R.T. Rybak, state party Chairs in Michigan, Ohio, New York, New Mexico, and Iowa.
“Blake's commitment to state and local Democratic officials is unmatched among others in the race given that he is a sitting local elected official with national organizing experience, including how he successfully coordinated outreach across the country to Attorneys General, county officials and Secretaries of State at The White House. Moreover, his understanding of how Democratic Attorneys General function will help lead the progressive legal push back and resistance against the Trump-Pence agenda and equally reject voter suppression and economically depressing tactics being imposed on Americans, especially those in the most challenged of communities," said Attorney General Karl Racine in a statement.
Attorney General Racine became the District of Columbia’s first elected Attorney General in 2014. In his first term as the capital’s chief legal officer, Racine has been a leader in reforming D.C.’s juvenile justice system by expanding a youth diversion program. Racine’s accomplishments also include forming D.C.’s Office of Consumer Protection and advocating for safe, affordable housing for D.C. residents.
Attorney General Racine joined 16 state Attorneys General in late January to condemn President Trump’s Muslim ban Executive Order, in a notable act of resistance and solidarity.
Michael Blake offered the following statement in response to this important endorsement from Attorney General and DNC Member, Karl Racine:
“I am incredibly honored by the endorsement of Attorney General Karl Racine as Democratic Attorneys General are absolutely paramount to the rebuilding of our party and leading the resistance against the Trump-Pence agenda. We absolutely must strengthen our relationships with Attorneys General across the country to ensure progressive legal voices protect and defend our rights and freedom. This critical endorsement continues to demonstrate the growing national momentum for #LeadershipForTomorrow."
