20 Additional DNC Members Endorse Assembly Member Michael Blake for DNC Vice Chair

Momentum grows as leaders nationwide embrace Blake’s vision for a stronger party

The Bronx, NY – Today, the Michael Blake for DNC Campaign announced the endorsement of state party leaders and DNC Committee Members across the country. The campaign is proud to have the backing of Kentucky State Party Chair Sannie Overly, New Mexico State Party Chair Debra Haaland, New Mexico State Party Vice Chair Juan Sanchez III, State Members Susie Shannon (CA), Daniel Halpern (GA), Nathan Gene Smith (KY), Barry Goodman (MI), Ron Harris (MN), Hon. Vivian Cook (NY), Dr. Valarie McCall (OH), John Verdejo (NC), Matt Keating (OR) and Members At-Large Marcus Mason (DC), Rick Wade (DC), Carlos Odio (FL), Steven Powell (IL), John Keller (IL), Hon. Arlanda Williams (LA), Akilah Ensley (NC), and Hon. Jay Jacobs (NY). 

The endorsement of these 20 DNC members spans 13 states and the District of Columbia and follows those of the campaign’s first named region Co-Chairs DNC State Member Allison Stephens (NV) and Member At-Large Kerman Maddox (CA), DNC Member At-Large and former Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter, Hon. Denny Farrell (NY), Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper and Vice Chair Rhine McLin, Michigan Party Chair Brandon Dillon, RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum, and current Vice Chair R.T. Rybak, among others. 


Following this exceptional demonstration of support, Assembly Member Blake offered the following statement.

“I am humbled to have the endorsement of so many leaders across the country whose dedication and hard work are the foundation of our party. Our conversations over these last few weeks have reinforced my commitment to building a national party that can support our grassroots efforts and energize the next generation of young leaders. Blake, who announced a candidacy for DNC Vice Chair in December,  is focused on creating programs that build strong state parties and a base of new elected leaders.   

Blake served in the Obama Administration as White House Associate Director for Public Engagement and Deputy Associate Director for Intergovernmental Affairs where he oversaw outreach to state and local elected officials, the African American community and minority and women-owned business enterprises. On President Obama’s reelection campaign, he served as the National Deputy Director of Operation Vote, the constituency vote effort for the campaign that helped win nine out of ten battleground states.

Blake is a graduate of New York City public schools and Northwestern University, where he earned his degree in broadcast journalism before embarking on a career in public service. As a campaign organizer, he's helped win several local elections and flip the Michigan state house to Democratic control. He is currently representing his hometown in the Bronx as a member of the New York State Assembly where he has focused on economic justice, civil rights, and criminal justice reform.
