BRONX, NY – Today, the Michael Blake for DNC campaign announced that Retail, Wholesale & Department Store Union (RWDSU) President Stuart Appelbaum has endorsed Blake in his campaign for DNC Vice-Chair. Appelbaum's endorsement follows those of Michigan Democratic Party Chair Brandon Dillon and current DNC Vice-Chair RT Rybak in the last week alone.

“Michael Blake has the passion, beliefs and ability to engage people that are so important for rebuilding our party,” Appelbaum said. “We need to be able to articulate our core values to the American public and that is Michael's greatest strength.  I've seen him do it as a legislator, and, I know he can do it as a DNC Vice-Chair. As a union leader and DNC Executive Committee member, I am proud to endorse Michael Blake for DNC Vice-Chair.”

Accepting the endorsement, Blake said, “As the son of organized labor, I am proud to have the support of someone like Stuart who represents so many of my constituents and the Americans who provide vital services to keep this country and its economy on the right track.”

Appelbaum currently serves as the President of the Retail, Wholesale & Department Store Union. Blake has been a vocal advocate for collective bargaining rights and strongly supports a national increase of the minimum wage.

Blake, a two-time campaign aide to President Obama, served as a White House Associate Director for outreach to state and local elected officials, the African-American community & Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises. In 2012, he served as the National Deputy Director of Operation Vote, the constituency vote effort for the campaign that helped win nine out of ten battleground states.

Blake, a national Co-Chair for New Leaders Council, which trains millennials across the country, announced his candidacy last week, focusing on the party’s need to identify, train and help candidates win local elections and embrace the Democratic party's diversity. Under the theme of "Leadership for Tomorrow", Blake laid out plans to Build our Bench, Strengthen our Party, and Embrace our Future.

Blake is a graduate of New York City public schools and Northwestern University, where he earned his degree in broadcast journalism before embarking on a career in public service. As a campaign organizer, he's helped win several local elections and flip the Michigan house to Democratic control. He is currently a member of the New York State Assembly where he has focused on economic justice, civil rights and criminal justice reform.
